Good News? Bad News!

Read in the paper today that those mega no-bid contracts Iraq gave to 5 big oil companies (Exxon/Mobil, BP, etc.) were helped along by our very own government. Tell me, do you think that we will feel compelled to keep our military in Iraq to protect these companies indefinitely? Is that what John McCain meant when he said we could be over there for 100 years?

Meeting on Thursday

We'll hold our monthly meeting at headquarters, 308 N Broadway on Thursday, June 26, at 5:30. Trenton Ray is going to talk about unity within the party. It's truce time between the Clintonites and the Obamaians. This promises to be VERY interesting.

Before the meeting, at 3:00, Susy Young, Voter Administrator, is going to offer voter registration training at her office at the courthouse annex. You'll need to undergo this class before being allowed to register voters for the November election. Just show up over there. It should take about 1 hour.

Scott Spills His Guts/Steny Gifts the Telecoms

It's gonna be a big day in Washington. C-SPAN has saved us a front-row seat to hear former White House press secretary Scott McClellan tell all he knows about the outing of Valerie Plaime's identity as a covert CIA agent. Who knows, we may yet see Cheney and Rove pleading their case before a criminal court judge some day.

Representative Steny Hoyer, Democratic (ha) House leader from Maryland, has generously decided to bring to a vote a bill that gives telecoms immunity for handing over our private telephone calls and emails to the U.S. government. It's been going on since 2001 (the new 1984). This content is used to supposedly determine if you and I are terrorists. Call me cynical, but I kinda think it may be used for a heck of a lot more than that. Incredibly, the bill allows it to continue! What the H... are they thinking?!!!

Boys, gas pains are givin' me a headache

I just got back from feeding my sister's dogs while she floats around in the Laguna Madre, sipping cold margaritas and enjoying the cool gulf breeze. Anywho, on the way to her swankenda, I heard on the radio that several very lucky oil companys are getting no-bid contracts in Iraq. Imagine that! I'm no rocket scientist but I think that probably means that they'll want our military to protect them from here on out while they're there. (Is that what GOP presidential hopeful John McSame meant when he said we may be there 100 years?)

Exxon Mobil, BP and a couple others have apparently hit paydirt--not only in Iraq but right here at home too. The Republicans in Congress are going on and on about how the reason gas is so high at the pump is because the bad old Democrats want to keep oil wells out of some of the pretty places we still have left. They're spreading that fib Dick Cheney started about "why even the Chinese are drilling closer to our shores than we are, thanks to their Cuban pals."

I told those pups as they lapped up their kibbles, "Boys, gas pains are givin' me a headache."
